This is a fun and interactive session that’s all about warm-ups, instant activities, and ice breakers! We shared a few activities that help students get to know each other through movement, along with warm-up activities to get students (and their heart rates) moving.
FREEZING – Blow the whistle and ask your students to freeze. Too slow? Have them walk and freeze again until students understand how to freeze after the whistle is blown.
RETRIEVING – Set up all of the equipment around the perimeter of the play area before class starts. This helps students space out while gathering equipment and prevents heavy traffic at the ball cart or equipment closet..
INSTRUCTIONS – No more than 30 seconds of instructions and get the kids moving. If the instructions are not clear or there are questions, freeze students again and correct the issues. Students have a difficult time retaining information when instructions are longer than 30 seconds.
GROUPING – Get toe to toe with someone close to you. If you don’t have a partner, raise your hand and hustle to the “Friendship” circle and match up with a partner there. If two of your students partner up who have a difficult time working together, have one of them raise their hands and separate them into two different teams. One team with their hands raised and one without.
Ten complete team-builders, with potential for hundreds more!
Race, collect, and stick balls to your pinnie while avoiding opponents trying to steal them off your back!
