Big Moves in a Small School: How One PE Teacher Brings Fun Every Day

Meet Coach Jose from The Builders School in the Philippians

The Builders School

Coach Jose Magpantay Jr. teaches Physical Education in a very small school called The Builders School. How small? Just 20 students! But even with a tiny school, Coach Jose makes a big impact. He teaches two PE classes, one for Grades 1 to 3 (11 Students) and one for Grades 4 to 6 (9 Students).

The Builders School is a special place where students, teachers, and parents all work together to help kids grow. The school believes that children are creative, caring, and full of great ideas. It’s a safe and fun place where kids can learn, play, and connect with each other—and PE class is no exception.

A Morning Full of Movement

PE happens on Mondays and Fridays in the morning. But movement doesn’t stop there. Every weekday, students start their day with a “Physical Activity Period” from [7:30] to 7:50 a.m. They follow fun exercise videos and mindfulness moves to get their bodies ready for learning.

About Coach Jose: From Player to Teacher

Coach Jose loved sports so much that it helped him finish college at the University of the Philippines. He says sports made him a better person. Now, he wants to pass that on to his students. That’s why he became a PE teacher.

Yoga and Dodgeball? Yes, Please!

At The Builders School, PE class is more than just running laps. Coach Jose teaches yoga to the older kids, using videos and ideas from a program called fitFlow Yoga. And the students’ favorite game is dodgeball. They learn how to throw, catch, and block. Then they play fun tournaments to show off what they’ve learned.

Favorite Equipment?

Coach Jose says the students love anything that helps them play dodgeball. Their favorite equipment is the soft cloth balls used in the game.

Teaching with Heart

Even though he teaches at an international school, Coach Jose wants all kids to learn the same important lesson. Have fun, but also work hard. He believes the effort students put in shows up in their grad es and in their growth.

Challenges on the Field

One of the hardest parts about Coach Jose’s job is not having a big indoor space. Most PE classes are held outside, no matter the weather.

Advice for Other PE Teachers

Coach Jose has simple advice for other PE teachers. Keep learning so you can keep inspiring your students. When teachers stay strong and excited, students feel that energy too.

What He Hopes Kids Remember

More than anything, Coach Jose hopes his students look back and say, “PE was fun.” He wants them to enjoy sports and exercise and to remember how great it felt to move their bodies.
