How One District Used the Master PE Program to Train Its Teachers

At Gopher, we love highlighting teachers who bring energy and purpose to PE. So when we found out that Michelle Jenkins, Kauai Complex Area Resource Teacher, and her team used the Master PE Teacher course to level up the teachers in their district, we had to learn more!

A New Way to Learn and Grow

Michelle and her team were building a special training program for their teachers. “We were creating a PD course for our teachers,” she told us, “and we thought the Master PE Teacher course would be a great way to deliver content.”

Here’s how they used it:

  1. Teachers watched the videos on their own time.
  2. They got together to talk about what they learned.
  3. Then, each teacher taught a lesson, filmed themselves, and wrote a reflection on how it went.

Michelle said they paid close attention to things like:

  • How the lesson started
  • How teachers moved from one activity to the next
  • If students were engaged and having fun
  • And how teachers gave feedback

What Did They Think?

“We loved it!” Michelle said. “Dr. Pangrazi explains things so clearly, and the course gives teachers strategies they can use right away.”

Some of the team’s favorite tips from the course were:

  • “Give 30 seconds of instruction, then get students moving!”
  • “Break the lesson into four parts to keep it organized and fun.”

Easy ideas like these made a big impact in their teaching.

Here what her teachers had to say about the course:

“I’ve read the Dynamic PE text and reference it from time to time but to hear and listen to these concepts and strategies directly from Dr. Pangrazi literally speaks volumes. I will be utilizing the course to assist teachers in my district.” – Michelle B.

“This course gives good knowledge about PE and how to implement it into your class. It was helpful with ideas, strategies, and resources.” – Ashley S.

“I would definitely recommend this course to PE teachers looking to enhance their skills. This course broke down the basics of a PE lesson and reminded me of the why behind teaching physical education. I really liked the break down of a quality lesson plan and the videos were very helpful in seeing PE taught in all grade levels.” – Cynthia R.

Not Just for PE Teachers

Michelle’s team also invited classroom teachers to take the course and it made a huge difference.

“A lot of them thought PE was just taking students outside to play,” Michelle shared. “Now, they understand that PE is about learning, structure, and helping kids grow.”

Learning That Fits Real Life

One of the best parts of the course? Flexibility.

Michelle explained, “Teachers could watch the videos when it worked for them. That made it so much easier.”

The course also includes reflection questions at the end of each video, which helped teachers think deeper and apply what they learned.

So, Would They Do It Again?

No doubt about it.

“This course was a great investment,” Michelle said. “I’d definitely buy more licenses. It’s perfect for new PE teachers—and even classroom teachers who want to understand what PE should look like.”

Thanks, Michelle and team, for sharing your story! We’re so glad the Master PE Teacher course helped you grow and made PE even more awesome for your students.
