In this episode of the PE Express Podcast, Chris Nichols shares how he used the 100th day of school to collaborate with colleagues.
Episode Transcript:
We recently had our 100 celebration at our campus and we worked with the librarian to create an event that was good for everyone involved at our school. I started off each class with a book “A hundred days of school” by Trudy Harris. After reading that book to the students, I then proceeded to create activities and my physical education setting that tied in to that day.
Some of the events that I had were stations set up throughout the gym. One of the stations would be, I can dribble a ball, 100 times. I can run around a Hula Hoop, 100 times. I can jump over a rope, 100 times. The possibilities are endless on what you can do for your students. After all the events in the gym, we then continued to the end of class where we would discuss the book again and we talked about some of the aspects of the book. If you put 10 candles on a birthday cake and then add 90 more, what did you get? We also talked about if every day you save one penny for a hundred days, what you get.
The whole purpose of this activity was the tie in the core curriculum with physical education curriculum. Anytime that we can work with fellow colleagues to create a common event and for all our students, everyone benefits at your campus. So remember, focus on these activities, embrace your colleagues accept other activities into your classroom and everyone will succeed.
