How PE Teachers Can Use AI Right Now

Let’s be honest, when you think about Artificial Intelligence (AI), your mind probably jumps to science labs or computer coding, not the gym. But here’s the truth: AI is already making life easier for PE teachers who are juggling lesson plans, equipment, student needs, & endless communication with families.

This blog is all about how AI fits into PE, with some ready-to-use prompts you can use for your own classes. Think of this as your “friend in the lounge” conversation about tech that saves you time & helps students move more.

Why Bother with AI in PE?

We’ve all been there:

  • You need a station card for tomorrow’s lesson (& it’s 8:00 pm).
  • A parent email comes in—but it’s in another language.
  • You want to differentiate for a new student with different needs, but don’t have hours to adapt everything.

AI doesn’t solve everything, but it does give us tools to make PE more inclusive, engaging, & just a little less stressful. As SHAPE America points out, equity & access are essential in PE—& AI can help bridge some of those gaps (SHAPE America, 2022).

1. Canva – Posters, Flyers, & Station Cards

Ever scribbled directions on paper & taped them to a cone? Canva lets you create polished visuals in minutes.

Try this prompt:
👉 “Create a poster for a 4th grade PE basketball dribbling station. Use simple words, fun icons.”

Suddenly the station card looks like something from Pinterest!

2. Google Translate or DeepL – Parent Communication

Physical educators have the most diverse classrooms in the school. Translation apps mean you can connect with all families.

Try this prompt:
👉 “Translate this Field Day flyer into Spanish, keeping the tone fun & family-friendly.”

Now your messages reach everyone, not just English-speaking families.

3. CapCut – Subtitles & Voiceovers

Sometimes kids need to see instructions, not just hear them. CapCut auto-generates subtitles & translates them too.

Try this prompt:
👉 “Add English subtitles to this jump rope tutorial, then create Arabic subtitles for students learning English.”

Now your videos are more accessible to multilingual learners & students who are hard of hearing.

4. MagicSchool.ai – Quick Lessons & Quizzes

Need an assessment or lesson plan, but don’t want to spend hours writing? MagicSchool is for you.

Try this prompt:
👉 “Make a 5-question quiz for 7th graders on the benefits of cardiovascular exercise, aligned to SHAPE America Standard 3. Include an answer key.”

It’s like having a PE lesson-writing assistant on call (minus the extra coffee runs).

Start Small, Not Stressful

You don’t need to overhaul your teaching. Pick one app, one prompt, & try it this week.

  • Need visuals? Start with Canva.
  • Need family communication? Use Google Translate.
  • Want to wow students? Try HeyGen.

The key is to treat AI like any other piece of equipment in your gym—it’s a tool, not the teacher.
